Regular
Membership is open to any full-time or part-time public
information officer employed by
any local, county, state or federal Emergency Services Agency
or others as determined by majority vote of the Board of
Directors.
Membership is based on a calendar
year. All memberships are individual (not agency) and are
non-transferable.

Associate
Membership is open to persons who held membership and
for reasons stated in the
by-laws are unable to continue as regular members, to persons
actively employed in government
emergency services but who work in areas outside
of public information, or to persons actively engaged in public
information duties outside of
government emergency services. All requests for
associate membership will be given to your regional director who
will forward them (with
comments if necessary) to the board of directors for a vote.
Associate members will not be allowed to vote in any Association
business.
Associate members will be allowed
to attend the annual conference at
the member conference rate. Associate members will not be allowed
to hold elected or appointed
office.

Honorary
Membership is open to persons who support the
philosophies and causes of the
NIOA but who do not meet the criteria for regular or associate
membership. Prospective honorary
members must be nominated in writing by a regular member in good
standing, with the nomination forwarded through the nominating
member's Regional Director. The Regional Director shall then
forward the nomination to the Board of
Directors for a vote with the Director's
comments and recommendation.
Honorary members will not be
allowed to vote in any
Association business. Honorary members will be allowed to attend
the annual conference at a rate to be decided by the Board of
Directors but may not participate in
any group or panel discussions unless approved
by a majority vote of conference attendees, and may be excluded
from attending some sessions entirely
at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
Honorary members will not be eligible to hold any elected or
appointed offices. Honorary members
may receive the Association newsletter and
regular mailings, but will be excluded from receiving any
directories, mailing lists or
rosters containing NIOA membership information.

Members are eligible to attend the annual
NIOA Training Conference, a multi-day event which seeks to organize and train Public
Information Officers through workshops, seminars and case presentations by PIOs who have
handled some of the biggest news events of our time. The gathering also offers unrivaled
opportunities for meeting and networking with your professional peers from across North
America.

Members
automatically receive a subscription to the NIOA
News, the official publication of the NIOA, with articles and photos from around the
nation, all specifically written and compiled to benefit you, the Public Information
Officer. Youll also be eligible to receive discounts at selected PIO classes offered
around the country, and have unrestricted access to all areas of our organizations
expanding Web Site. |
