Dear NIOA Members,
It is an incredible honor to serve as President of the National Information Officers Association. I am humbled by the trust you have placed in me, and I am deeply committed to carrying forward the mission of our organization:
To bring together and serve the needs of professional public information officers through networking and ongoing training and educational opportunities - and believe in and practice honesty, transparency, accuracy and professionalism.
The role of public communicators has never been more vital. Every day, PIOs stand at the intersection of government, media, and community, working to provide clarity, accuracy, and reassurance during moments that matter most. Our work requires leadership, adaptability, and a steadfast commitment to public service. As an association, NIOA is here to provide you with the resources, training, and professional network to meet those challenges head-on.
I am fortunate to serve alongside an outstanding Executive Board: Vice President Pedro Barineau, Secretary Anna Huffman, Immediate Past President Stewart Smith, Past Presidents’ Council Representative Don Aaron, and our Executive Director Lisa McNeal. Together, we will continue building on the foundation of excellence laid by those who came before us, while also seeking new opportunities to expand our reach and impact.
As we move forward into this next chapter, my priorities as your President are clear:
Thank you for your continued commitment to our profession and to NIOA. I look forward to working with each of you in the year ahead as we elevate the vital role of public information officers nationwide.
With gratitude,
Chelsea Kretz
2025-2026 President
